The Renaissance The Ideas Of The English Renaissance
The English Renaissance transformed the written word into a respected art form through drama and poetry. The works of people like Thomas More, Edmund Spencer, Christopher Marlowe, and William Shakespeare helped to spread the ideas of the Renaissance to a majority of the people. Ideas such as romantic love, humanism and secularism became widely discussed and allowed the common man and the rich man to ponder on similar ideas. Unlike the Italian Renaissance, where noble patrons would hire artists to make paintings or sculptures for them, the nobility in the English Renaissance actually partook in the exciting rebirth that was sweeping their country. Interestingly, King Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I, and King James I all wrote and studiedâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦During the Renaissance a change was taking place in how poets and authors saw the world. The authors of plays were moving away from the medieval theaterââ¬â¢s focus on God and the Bible and focusing more on the way the G reeks portrayed drama. Ever since the Greeks, drama has been a part of daily life, but during the English Renaissance is when the ideas of the Greeks began to resurface and make their mark on the plays. No longer were plays acting scenes out from the Bible but they were now focused on the human response. Themes of the church and faith still made appearances in plays, but they were not the focal point. Instead, plays stressed the point of the importance of humans in worldly affairs. In this instance the plays of the English Renaissance are similar to the entertainment that so many enjoy today. However, in many other instances Elizabethan drama differs from the entertainment of today. From the research of Allardyce Nicoll he discovered that one of the main differences from then and now was the stage, ââ¬Å"The main stage was bare, backed by a faà §ade broken by two or more doors through which the actors made their entrance and exits.â⬠The scarcity of props and dà ©cor did not limit the beauty or the message of the plays, but rather added to the plays by allowing the audience to imagine the scenes. The Ring of Fire â⬠Pacific Ocean
The Ring of Fire is a 25,000 mile (40,000 km) horseshoe-shaped area of intenseà volcanic and seismic (earthquake) activity that follows the edges of the Pacific Ocean. Receiving its fiery name from the 452 dormant and active volcanoes that lie within it, the Ring of Fire includes 75% of the worlds active volcanoes and is also responsible for 90% of the worlds earthquakes. Where Is the Ring of Fire? The Ring of Fire is an arc of mountains, volcanoes, and oceanic trenches that stretch from New Zealand northward along the eastern edge of Asia, then east across the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, and then south along the western coasts of North and South America. What Created the Ring of Fire? The Ring of Fire was created by plate tectonics.à Tectonic plates are like giant rafts on the Earths surface that often slide next to, collide with, and are forced underneath each other. The Pacific Plate is quite large and thus it borders (and interacts) with a number of large and small plates. The interactions between the Pacific Plate and its surrounding tectonic plates creates a tremendous amount of energy, which, in turn, easily melts rocks into magma. This magma then rises to the surface as lava and forms volcanoes. Major Volcanoes in the Ring of Fire With 452 volcanoes, the Ring of Fire has some that are more famous that others. The following is a listing of major volcanoes in the Ring of Fire. The Andes ââ¬â Running 5,500 miles (8,900 km) north and south along the western edge ofà South America, the Andes Mountains are the longest, continental mountain range in the world. The Andean Volcanic Belt is within the mountain range and is broken up into four volcanic zones that include such active volcanoes as Cotopaxi and Cerro Azul. It is also home to the highest, active volcano ââ¬â Ojos del Salado.Popocatepetl ââ¬â Popocatepetl is an active volcano in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. Located near Mexico City, this volcano is considered by many to be the most dangerous in the world since a large eruption could potentially kill millions of people.Mt. The Aleutians contain 52 volcanoes, with a few of the most active being Cleveland, Okmok, and Akutan.à The deep Aleutian Trench, which also sits next to the islands, has been created at the subduction zone with a maximum depth of 25,194 feet (7679 meters).Mt. Fuji ââ¬â Located on the Japanese island of Honshu, Mt. Fuji, at 12,380 feet (3,776 m), is the tallest mountain in Japan and the worlds most visited mountain. However, Mt. Fuji is more than a mountain, it is an active volcano that last erupted in 1707.Krakatoa ââ¬â In the Indonesia Island Arc sits Krakatoa, remembered for its massive eruption on Augustà 27, 1883 that killed 36,000 people and was heard 2,800 miles away (it is considered the loudest sound in modern history). The Indonesian Island Arc is also home to Mt. Tambora, whose eruption on April 10, 1815 was the largest in major history, being calculated as a 7 on the Volcanic Explosion Index (VEI).Mt. Ruapehu ââ¬â Rising to 9,177 feet (2797 m), Mt. Ruapehu is the tallest mountain on the North Island of New Zealand. Located in the southern section of the Taupo Volcanic Zone, Mt. Pembertons dilemma free essay sample
Me and our team worked on an exercise called Pembertonââ¬â¢s Dilemma. In preparation, I was initially confused with scenario of the Pembertons dilemma. I took the book of Negotiation: Readings, Exercises and cases and read in detail regarding the exercise. I waited for the professor to provide the team and the role whether our team were country market or corner store. I also Read the instruction given in the handoutââ¬â¢s for the exercise were we note our profitââ¬â¢s or loses and which also had the objective of the exercise. Plan Used to maximize the Profitââ¬â¢s or minimize the loses. We got the role of corner store. The plan that our team used initially was strictly competitive to gain profits since we donââ¬â¢t have any idea about the counter party and later it became accommodating. After we went a negotiation conversations with the counter party in two negotiation breaksââ¬â¢ which were of 5 minutes each. We will write a custom essay sample on Pembertons dilemma or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page As a team we planned from the instructions to gain profit against the counter party in order to maximize our teamââ¬â¢s profits at any cost, but maximizing the profit along with a long-term relationship in the future was tough. I believe the strategy our team used was collaborative. At the end of the negotiation exercise both our team and counter party have equal profitââ¬â¢s along with good relationship. How plan was started and conversation went on in the Team As a team our member had an initial strategy that was communicated well , alternatively I have another way of moves so that our team opens the store for fewer weekââ¬â¢s which reduces work load in handling the store open for less time and gaining profitââ¬â¢s when compared to the counter party opening the store more time . I later Identified in my plan the profitââ¬â¢s that were going to be made were less when compared with the proposal of our team member. When discussing, our initial moves are opening the store for the first four weekââ¬â¢s since to maximize our profits and also as we donââ¬â¢t have any Idea regarding the actions of Country store team. Initially for the first three weekââ¬â¢s both our teams opened the stored since we donââ¬â¢t want to lose the profitââ¬â¢s . But as the case If both opens each store loses 20,000 $ and we made loses. Even in the fourth week we did the same thing because the profits are going to be doubled. But we incurred losses since both of the teams had same intention and we both opened the stores. So we thought to have a negotiation with the counter team so that loses were going to be minized. Negotiation happened in break-At our first negotiation the team agreed to stick to our competitive strategy and maximize our profit at any cost. The counterpartââ¬â¢s strategy was also so the same. The counterpart agreed upon our discussion in order to maintain mutual benefitââ¬â¢s . We used the negotiation as an open opportunity to go against what was agreed on. At I believe both parties changed their strategies and had a collaborative decision. Continuation of the role play The corner store team then did accept our plan and went in a collaborative situation. We both closed the stores for the next three weeks so that each gained mutual benefits. Now the time came where the profits are going to be tripled. This is the time that we are going to trust each other. They remained loyal and we remained in the same loyalty and both closed the stores, so that no penalty is going to be levied and our profits for the week are in positive direction when compared to the previous week. Negotiation happened in break-2 So the constraints If only one store opens, the other loses. If both open, both lose. However, if both stay closed, there wonââ¬â¢t be any penalty, but will lose the potential profits for that day. This is core to the whole idea of the prisonerââ¬â¢s dilemma. Through cooperation and negotiation methods we cannot have a higher return possible through action of one opening and the other closing unless their wonââ¬â¢t be any penalty. So we both the corner store and the country store mutual interests are maximizing the profitââ¬â¢s . so we focused on the mutual gains. Continuation of the role play After the second negotiation took place with counter party. We continued the strategy of closing the next three weeks . Now the ultimate time has come. Since they came to negotiation with us without acting individually we have to be trust worthy. We didnââ¬â¢t play any dirty tricks and kept the same hope from them by our conversation with them in the negotiation breaks and even in the role play . On the top the alternate opening or closing of stores and our relationship continuous only we both have trust in each other even after the twelfth week. Even at the final point the counterpart stayed closed along with us. Our only possible threat was what if they went against us mutual benefits. But it didnââ¬â¢t happen. Observing the gestures Following our competitive plan, we didnt express any type of attitude , we had relaxed actions and made no facial expressions. Even the counter party has the same behavior. Their behaviors made us believe that the counterpart was following us for mutual benefits. Personal Evaluation When we are working in a team relating to any aspect we first must have a communication with other members of the team so that we can have small ideas regarding their ideas or behaviors . So I introduce myself to other and listened about the others. Initially as I thought a plan of implementing the role-play, the other team member has another idea. As in my plan our store workââ¬â¢s less than other store and gains same profits. But the plan of my other team member is different. so I separated my position with my interest and agreed upon his opinion. Learning from the exercise I believe the team was able to utilize the Negotiation methods: separating positions from problems and inventing options for mutual, examining the situation and assessing the relationship further. If both teams utilized an interest based negotiation, we might have been able to form a collaborative and comprehensive solution to any negotiation. What I would do different in a similar future situation in my personal or professional life is try and understand thoroughly the problem at hand and be able to recognize the main interests and invent the options for mutual gains along with a Banta (Best alternative to a negotiation agreement) , unless the other party donââ¬â¢t play any dirty tricks.

Manhattan Project essays
Manhattan Project essays "Nor do I take into account a danger of starting a chain reaction of a scope great enough to destroy part or all of the planet ... But it is not necessary to imagine the earth being destroyed like a nova by a stellar explosion to understand vividly the growing scope of atomic war and to recognize that unless another war is prevented it is likely to bring destruction on a scale never before held possible, and even now hardly conceived, and that little civilization would survive it." Albert Einstein Since the beginning of time men have found cause to go to war with one another. War has built nations into great powers while bringing others to great ruin. Because of the threat of war, and the possibility of being conquered, countries put great importance on the strength of their military. In an attempt to gain the edge against their enemies they constantly try to have the most effective weapons so they can inflict the most possible damage on the opponent while minimizing their own damage sustained. New weapons have revolutionized the state of warfare throughout history, and caused great concern. For example, there was widespread concern with the advent of the crossbow in the Middle Ages; an untrained peasant was now able to kill a knight who had been trained in the art of warfare his entire life. The crossbow changed the way battles had to be fought. There have been many new weapons of war that have been so influential that they have changed the way wars were fought. Ho wever, no weapon in history has been as influential as the nuclear bomb developed by the United States in 1945. While other revolutionary new weapons might turn the tide of battle and may even cause entire countries to be defeated, if two countries ever became involved in a full scale nuclear war, the world would end as we know it. In 1939 the world was on the brink of war. Germanys war machine was on the move and its best and brightest scien...

Types of Formatting for Academic Papers
Types of Formatting for Academic Papers Types of Formatting for Academic Papers Teachers commonly require academic papers to assess a studentââ¬â¢s comprehension of a topic. Academic assessments often come in the form of research papers, which are defined as a personââ¬â¢s thoughts or perception of a topic based on thorough analysis. When writing an academic paper, be mindful of the following things. Common Types of Academic Papers Definition Papers Definition papers describe an idea from a factual perspective. These papers do not contain opinion or emotion. Although you may gather facts from different sources, the information is simply stated and supported. However, a definition paper can provide a good framework for persuasive, argumentative, or analytical papers. Argumentative Papers Argumentative papers present two sides of a scenario in one paper. Most good argumentative papers include in-text citations from different researchers and logical facts in support of both sides of the argument. Ultimately, these facts should conclude and culminate your analysis with the pros and cons of each side. The challenge in writing an argumentative paper is that while you are advocating for one side over the other, the way in which you present both arguments must remain neutral and factual. Persuasive Papers Persuasive papers choose a stance and provide logical arguments to defend that stance. Unlike argumentative papers, persuasive papers do not need to present ideas that support any opposing stance. It can also include more emotional and perspective-based opinions. Purpose of Academic Paper Formats When writing academic papers, the way you present your paper is crucial. Using the proper citing, referencing, and quoting of your sources allow for you to communicate your ideas in a manner that is shared by others in your field. Some of these formats include: Chicago Manual of Style The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) is predominantly used in humanities, particularly literature, history, or the arts. Modern Language Association Style The Modern Language Association Style (MLA) is also popular with students of humanities. Artists, linguists, and theatre students have been using MLA for over 500 years. American Psychological Association Style The American Psychological Association Style (APA) is a set of rules and guidelines established by the American Psychological Association. LLB Law - Contract Law Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
LLB Law - Contract Law - Case Study Example The offer was communicated to Mr Taylor at the price agreed of 35,000 to be payable 24 March, the costumes to be delivered on the same day. Studying this case one must also remember that the definition of consideration is extremely important and relevant. In Currie v Misa (1875) the definition of consideration is clearly understood as a right, interest, profit or benefit to one party, or some forbearance, detriment suffered or undertaken by another. Consideration is the normal 'badge of enforcement' in English Law. Taking a further look at this case the consideration was the amount of money that Mr Baron offered to Mr Taylor in exchange for the goods at the promised time. However Mr Taylor suffered detriment when the full amount of money was not paid. Consideration was given when Mr Baron asked for all all the costumes for the waiters to be delivered before the club opened. Mr Taylor met all the requirements for the contract to be valued whereas Mr Baron did not fulfill the requirements of the contract. The case also deals with executed consideration, for this to be the case there are certain criteria that must be satis fied. In LAMPLEIGH v BRAITWAIT (1615) it was held that the act must have been requested by the promisor. As seen in Mr Baron's case he made the request for the costumes. As per RE CASEY's PATENT (1892) there was an understanding that payment would be made once all the costumes were delivered to Mr Baron for the full amount that he promised. Mr Baron did not pay the full amount he promised on delivery of the goods. Consequently he breached the terms of the contract and Mr Taylor suffered damage. There was an intention to be bound as in the case of Carlill v Carbolic Smoke Ball Co [1893] 1 QB 256. Other cases have studied the laws of intention such as; Rose and Frank Co v JR Crompton & Bros [1923] There was a clear intention on the part of Mr Baron to create legal relations since he communicated his needs when he found out that Mr Taylor's staff were far behind with their work and that the costumes may not be finished by opening night. Mr Baron clearly wanted the work carried out and clearly communicated the amount of money he wanted in return for the goods. When Mr Baron realized that the goods might not be ready for opening time he communicated a new agreement that he would pay a further 3000 only if the goods were ready in time for opening. This resulted in Mr Taylor requesting all of his workers to design Mr Baron's costumes exclusively. Therefore Mr Taylor was running at a loss if Mr Baron did not pay the full amount since he could not ask his workers to work on anything else during this time period. This resulted in damages to Mr Taylor and his company when Mr Baron refused to keep his promise and pay the full amount. This relates to the decision made in WILLIAMS v ROFFEY BROS(1991), where it was held that where a party to an existing
